Abingdon Vintage Cookie Jars
Abingdon started in 1908 as the Abingdon Sanitary Manufacturing Company, making toilet fixtures and the like, and became Abingdon Potteries Inc. in 1945. When Abingdon actually began making cookie jars is unknown, but it is estimated that they began hand painting cookie jars in 1942 and continued until 1950. In 1951 the company was sold to Briggs Manufacturing Company and according to Mike Schneider in The Complete Cookie Jar Book, Abingdon sold their cookie jar molds to Regal China.
Most Abingdon cookie jars are marked, commonly with an "Abingdon USA" inkstamp, an impressed serial number or both.
