Caring for Your Vintage Cookie Jars

  • Never put your cookie jar in the dishwasher. Vintage or new, especially if you are unsure of the finish. Learn from my mistake, cookie jars can crack in the dishwasher.

  • Try not to display your jars where they will get grimey or dirty. You don't want to have to clean your cookie jars too often.

  • Dust your cookie jars with a small soft paint or make up brush. You don't want to let the dust build up.

  • You can wash your cookie jar in warm soapy water if it is completely glazed. Wipe the cookie jar very gently with a very soft cloth or sponge and rinse.

  • Never soak your vintage cookie jar in water if it is not glazed or if it is cold painted. You can wipe it gently with a soft cloth, dampened with lukewarm water. Be very careful of the painted areas as the cold paint can be rubbed off easily.

  • Let the cookie jars air dry in a safe, flat area, not the drainer, and you can place paper towels or newspapers or both, under the cookie jar.
